It’s chow time with the camera

I’ve taken a lot of different photographs with my camera, but one of my latest efforts has been to capture pictures of food. Granted, I’ve captured food images before, but I’ve been fascinated recently by trying to capture images of the food I made.

Most of my food photos lately have been of breakfast, specifically bacon and eggs. I’ve captured my baked macaroni and cheese, along with a few other dishes I’ve been working on. Today, though, I decided to go beyond shooting the finished dishes and worked on grabbing a few photos of the food being prepared.

It was a bit of a challenge prepping food with one hand at times while handling the camera with the other hand, but it’s nice to face the challenge. Besides the usual bacon and eggs, I also prepped some toast and slathered the bread with my sweetheart’s tasty Mountain Dew jelly. (Yes, I said Mountain Dew jelly.) I finished it off with a large glass of chocolate milk.

The breakfast was good, and so were the photos. When you think about it, food pictures entice people just as much as any other type of photo. They’re on the menus in all the restaurants, giving us a glimpse of what we can sink our teeth into. They’re the reason that people love turning to the food pages in the newspaper and magazines. Food has its own beauty—providing you don’t burn it.

It’ll be interesting to see what subject piques my photographic curiosity next.

The finished breakfast – scrambled eggs, thick and crispy bacon, toast topped with Mountain Dew jelly, and a tall glass of chocolate milk. Not a bad way to start a Sunday. (Photo by Lee Pulaski)
